Hainsworth collaborates with award winning furniture designer

Yorkshire Textile mill Hainsworth has collaborated with award-winning furniture designer Mark Gabbertas to create an exciting new exhibition of furniture and fabric.

The pieces will be showcased at an exhibition called ‘Fabricate: Of Furniture and Fabric’ in the Brompton Design District at The London Design Festival later this month (23-26 September).

It is the first time that Hainsworth – one of Britain’s most respected and innovative woollen textile mills – has used its famous fabrics for contract upholstery.

Yorkshire-born Mark Gabbertas, who established The Gabbertas Studio in 2001, is renowned for his experimental approach to new technologies and recently received his 13th Design Guild Mark.

He has used a number of the mill’s fabrics in his designs which have all been used to rework and reinterpret a selection of Gabbertas’ new, recent and favourite designs. The exhibition will include three armchairs, five office chairs, an upholstered bench and a coffee table.

Julie Greenough of Hainsworth said: “The London Design Festival is a fantastic showcase for the best of British design.

“We are delighted to have worked with Mark Gabbertas on creating these wonderful new pieces of furniture. The opportunity to take Hainsworth fabrics into the realm of commercial interiors with such flair and insight is very exciting.

“Mark’s dedication and creativity mixed with his love of simplicity and solution fits well with our own motivators and beliefs.”

Commenting on the collaborative furniture venture, Mark Gabbertas said: “Our objective was to create a collection with a new perspective through the use of Hainsworth’s beautiful British fabrics. We were really impressed with the flow and spectrum of colours to work with.

“It is rare to find a partner who has the same values and vision and the exhibition celebrates our common ground, our commitment to quality, innovation and longevity.”

The exhibition is a free event and will be held in the Brompton Design District at The Sampler, 35 Thurloe Place, South Kensington, London SW7 2HP. Times: 10.30am-8pm.

The London Design Festival is an annual event held to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community. The festival runs from 19-27 September.
