Visitors to a York hotel this weekend are being urged to get their skates as it takes a starring role in a city-wide Christmas spectacular.
The Best Western Monkbar Hotel is one of the 30 destinations of the Ice Trail, where beautifully carved ice sculptures will be centre stage on both Saturday and Sunday.
The sculpture that will be featured at the hotel – which has just undergone a £3m transformation – is a Yorkshire Terrier, the mascot of the of the venue’s new dining experience, The Yorkshire bar and grill, and will sit prominently at the front of the hotel.
Graham Usher, Monkbar Hotel general manager and chair of York Hoteliers’ Association, said: “The Ice Trail is a superb initiative from Make it York, and will hopefully attract plenty of visitors to the city this weekend.
“We are delighted to be displaying our Yorkshire Terrier ice carving, which looks absolutely stunning.
“It will also give residents and visitors alike the opportunity to see the new look Monkbar Hotel and, perhaps, stay for a bite to eat or a drink in The Yorkshire bar and grill.
“One of the real pulling points of the trail is that it will take those following it to areas they possibly wouldn’t go to on a normal shopping expedition. They will see just how fabulous a city York really is.
“Christmas is when York really does come into its own. It has something to offer everyone and, the hotel and hospitality sector is well and truly at the heart of it.”
