Directors and staff at Tong Garden Centre are celebrating after being announced as finalists of two awards in a prestigious national competition.
In May, 2015, the Bradford Garden Centre was acquired by new owners who wasted no time in implementing a series of improvements to its plant, catering, retail and play areas.
It is these improvements, including the new Orchard Café and the Grasshoppers Adventure Playground, that has earned the team a place in the final in the Best Business Development: New Build, Refit or Launch category of the Garden Retail and Garden Industry Awards that take place next month.
Grasshoppers Adventure Playground also features in the second finalist place in the Community Involvement Award after the playground helped to raise over £5,000 for Martin House Hospice during the school summer holidays.
Tong Garden Centre co-owner, Mark Farnsworth, said: “It’s a credit to everyone at Tong, who has worked exceptionally hard to implement huge changes in a very short timeframe, that we’ve reached the final.”
Hosted by leading industry title, Horticulture Week, The Garden Retail & Garden Industry Awards recognise and celebrate the best businesses in the garden retail industry. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on February 4 at London’s Grand Connaught Rooms.
Tong Garden Centre occupies a 17 acre site in Tong village. It is one of Yorkshire’s biggest garden centres with 110,000 square feet of retail space and parking for up to 1,000 cars.
