Profit growth at Macdonald Hotels

Macdonald Hotels Ltd, which runs Gisborough Hall Hotel in Guisborough, is not only celebrating its 25th anniversary this year but has also recently announced increased profits and turnover for the last financial year.

The group, which has 55 hotels and resorts in the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal, recently published its annual results for the year to 2 April 2015 which showed:

  • Group turnover up 7 per cent (£10.2m) to £155.7m
  • Total operating profit up 11 per cent (£1.6m) to £16.9m
  • Profit after tax up £2.5m to £6.1m
  • Bank debt effectively reduced by over £96m at December 2015

Kim Yardley, general manager at Gisborough Hall Hotel said; “All of us at Gisborough Hall Hotel welcome this news, which underpins Group plans to continue to invest in facilities for the thousands of guests we welcome each year. It’s also a great way to mark the company’s first quarter century which we continue to celebrate in 2016.”

Ruaridh Macdonald, deputy chief executive, said: “We enjoyed significant benefit last year from major events including The Ryder Cup, the Commonwealth Games, The Open Golf Championship and the Farnborough Air show, with hotel sales up by 7 per cent and hotel operating profit up by 10 per cent.

“During the year we invested £16m into our hotels and resorts, including refurbishing bedrooms, upgrading spa facilities as well as our IT infrastructure and website. This year we have £9m already invested and a further £5m to be invested in our continuing major bedroom refurbishment programmes.”

Ruaridh Macdonald added: “Hospitality is at the very heart of our business and our people remain central to delivering the warmest of welcomes and exemplary service to all our guests.”

The company is also celebrating having been awarded RCI Gold Crown quality rating for 2016 for eight resorts across Europe.
