Kelkay, the market-leading manufacturer and distributor of aggregates, has appointed Barrie King to the position of logistics manager.
Kelkay continues its investment in the infrastructure of the business. As the company continues to grow, they ensure delivery lead times are always maintained. Barrie will take day-to-day control of Kelkay’s logistical operations and will also be responsible for the continuous improvement of the warehouse management systems and Goods Inwards. He will oversee the stringent quality and checking systems are kept up to date and in line with the company’s programs.
Barrie will be working closely with Jonathan Wilson, who was recently appointed operations manager, to develop and implement an advanced, ISO 9001 compliant, quality control system.
Barrie has been part of the Kelkay team for over ten years and seen many changes in his time with the Yorkshire based company. During this period he has held the positions of yard manager, assistant transport manager and transport manager as well as playing a pivotal part in the set up for Glee. With these roles Barrie has gained a wealth of experience of the Kelkay business and been an integral part in the growth of the company.
This recent promotion has opened up new opportunities for Gavin Jackson, who has been promoted to transport manager, and Andrew Kerr who will move to the role of senior planner. Both Gavin and Andrew have also been part of the Kelkay team for many years within the transport department.
Antony Harker, managing director at Kelkay, said: “I am delighted to be in a position to promote from within the company. This can only add to the depth of knowledge and commitment from the team.”
Kelkay ensures industry leading stock availability and delivery lead times, especially at peak periods. It offers a £500 carriage paid order service across the UK through its transport logistics department. This ensures customers receive their orders within three days – and in many instances, within two days.
Kelkay’s brand portfolio includes Borderstone®, Build Mate, easyfountain® and Henri®, providing retailers with a single source of supply for a wide range of garden products. These include aggregates, stone, water and garden features, paving, edging and walling, building materials, horticulture, growing media and winter garden products.
By promoting aggregates, paving and fountains with eye-catching point of sale, merchandising units and display stands, garden retailers have seen sales grow in these categories.
