Health food retailer, Holland & Barrett, is to open a flagship “Holland & Barrett More” store in York this Thursday, creating ten new job roles for the local area.
The new store, located on Coney Street in the City centre, will be only the second of its new, flagship “More” store formats and will be one of the largest stores in the business’ extensive portfolio of more than 700 stores across the country.
The new addition to the estate follows consistent growth for the Nuneaton-based international retailer, which saw some 40 new Holland & Barrett stores opened in 2015, bringing the total number of stores under the brand to 1071 globally of which more than 300 are located in markets as diverse as Kuwait and Malta, Singapore and China.
The new, larger store format was unveiled last year with the opening of Holland & Barrett’s first ever “More” store, in Chester. A key element of the new format is to address the needs of the rapidly growing ‘Free From’ community.
The “More” format includes an in-store and supporting online product range that has been specially designed by the business to serve the needs of the rising number of people with food allergies and intolerances who find it difficult to source an adequate range of products from existing retail outlets or online.
The “More” format also allows the retailer to experiment with new shopping concepts, many of which have already proved very successful in Chester, including vegan nail bars, on-the-go protein shake stations and fruit and nut pick n mix stations.
Holland & Barrett’s CEO Peter Aldis, said: “Our flagship Holland & Barrett More concept store in York is a really exciting development which we are very proud of. We have worked hard to continue developing this inspiring concept proposition, offering customers more interactive instore concepts and innovative products than ever before.
“What sets us apart from our competition is not only the quality, range and advice we are able to offer, but the cutting-edge instore shopping experience which makes us a destination of choice for health and nutrition on the high street.”
In addition to the usual product range available in existing stores, York customers at the “More” store will be able to access a much wider range of products and innovative new concepts across health, food, beauty and sports, including a revamped natural beauty section showcasing the brand’s ethical and natural beauty products, a natural Tea Bar, and Pick n Mix station where customers can stock up on their favourite dried fruits, nuts and snacks for healthy snacking.
