Top business names join Director of the Year judging panel


The Institute of Directors (IoD) has revealed the business experts who will judge this year’s Director of the Year awards.

Richard Tuplin, of Jelf Insurance Partnership, will chair the judging panel. He will be joined by: Simon Walton, partner at Berwick Partners; Etta Cohen, managing director of Etta Cohen; and Andy Wood, managing partner of the Leeds and Newcastle offices of Grant Thornton UK.

The line-up is completed by Anthony Knowles, head of employer and delivery Service (North East) for the National Apprenticeship Service and Nicki Clark, chief operating officer of BE Group.

The winners will be revealed at a gala dinner at Leeds Civic Hall on 16 June. They will go forward to the national IoD Director of the Year finals.

This year’s winners could follow in the footsteps of Dan Robinson, of Gus Robinson Developments, and Stewart McNicholl, of AMS Asbestos Management Services, who triumphed at the national awards in 2015.

Mr Tuplin said: “The Director of the Year awards are recognised as one of the most prestigious accolades for business leaders in Yorkshire and the North East. I’d urge anyone who hasn’t already entered to contact the IoD.”

This year’s award categories are:

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • Director of the Year (Large company)
  • Director of the Year (Small to Medium Company)
  • Young Director of the Year
  • International Director of the Year
  • Public/Third Sector Director of the Year

North East

  • Director of the Year (Small to Medium Company)
  • Young Director of the Year

Joint Yorkshire and the Humber and North East

  • Non-Executive Director of the Year
  • Director of the Year (Mid-Market Company)
