One Health clinics giving choice to NHS patients in Rotherham

A leading healthcare provider in Rotherham is helping to reduce NHS patient waiting times across a range of clinical areas.

The One Health Group is holding weekly clinics at the Morthen Road Surgery in Wickersley, specialising in orthopaedics, general surgery and gynaecology.

The One Health Group is a registered Any Qualified Provider (AQP) and has worked in support of NHS Commissioners and Providers for over 10 years. They are a team of specialist surgeons and healthcare managers who work together to provide the best possible diagnosis and treatment for patients.

Approximately 90 per cent of referrals to One Health clinics are made through Choose & Book (e-Referral). The company’s services are wholly aligned with the NHS in terms of tariff and quality standards.

All clinics are consultant led and all consultants have held substantive NHS posts and have established clinical practices. Continuation of care is of paramount importance which means that patients see the same consultant from the first consultation to treatment, aftercare and discharge.

Waiting times at One Health clinics from referral to first outpatient appointment are short, on average just two to four weeks and an average of six to eight weeks from consultation to surgery.

All outpatient treatment is carried out at the Morthen Road Surgery, with inpatient treatment or surgery taking place at private hospitals in Sheffield.

Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Derek Bickerstaff, chief executive of One Health Group, said: “Since opening our clinics in Rotherham in 2014 we have seen a large number of patients using our service.

“We already have established clinics across Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster have treated over 15,000 NHS patients over the last two years.

“Patients can ask to be referred to our One Health Rotherham clinic by their NHS GP through e-Referral (Choose & Book) and the whole process is very straight forward and patient friendly.

“Our strategy is to open clinics close to where people live, which means that patients don’t have to travel to Sheffield for a consultation or outpatient appointments. We are bringing the same consultants you would see at Rotherham Hospital or the Northern General Hospital to a community practice in Wickersley.

“A lot of people are still unaware that they have a choice as to who delivers their NHS care and by asking to be referred to a One Health clinic really can ensure that patients receive their treatment quicker, whilst still being an NHS patient.

“The feedback from patients who have used our Rotherham clinic has been great and we are looking forward to welcoming more patients to One Health.”
