Visit Harrogate has teamed up with 17 partners to create the first Harrogate District Garden Guide, a full colour, 24-page publication showcasing many of the district’s floral, herbaceous and arboreal delights in stunning, creative photography.
Featuring a wealth of different gardens and styles, the guide signposts the many choices available to gardening enthusiasts during their stay in the Harrogate District on the fold out map.
These range from the 63-acre RHS Garden Harlow Carr to water gardens, landscaped woodlands, and smaller, private open gardens, such as Yorke House at Dacre Banks.
The guide will also feature seasonal Where to See, along with calendars of garden-related events and top tips for the time of year from some of the partner’s gardeners.
The Garden Guide will be launched at Visit Harrogate’s stand (GH39 – Gardening Hall) at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, taking place at the Great Yorkshire Showground across April 21-24.
With 60,000 visitors expected over the show’s four days, Visit Harrogate anticipates being able to attract people from all over the UK to the District’s enviable selection of gardens, both while here for the Flower Show and on many return visits.
Partners who helped to produce the guide will also be on hand at the show with interactive displays and information. They comprise Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, RHS Garden Harlow Carr and Ripon Workhouse Garden.
Visit Harrogate director Michael Newby said: “The Harrogate District has such a wealth of gardens that it makes sense to celebrate them in this, the Year of the English Garden.
There is something for everyone here; historic working gardens, listed gardens, national collections, water gardens and many more.
“I am delighted that we will be launching our new Gardens Guide and online campaign at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show on the 21st April, where we will be taking the Harrogate gardens message to visitors from all over the country.
As we are working with a number of partners over the four days of the show, each will be different on the Visit Harrogate stand.”
The Garden Guide is also supported by Rudding Park, Harrogate in Bloom, York Gate Garden, Cold Cotes accommodation and gardens and Markenfield Hall and Gardens. Other partners are Yorke House, Mercer Art Gallery, Goldsborough Hall, Newby Hall, Himalayan Gardens, Swinton Park, Alexa House and the Harrogate Flower Shows.
It will feature a competition for garden lovers, who have the chance to win a stay at Rudding Park and discounted entry to RHS Harlow Carr.
In addition to the guide, there is also a dedicated webpage on the Visit Harrogate website, www.visitharrogate.co.uk/gardens as well as a social media gardens campaign.
