Leeds’ Olympic gold medal hero Alistair Brownlee MBE has teamed up with a Yorkshire residential sales and letting agency to give children across the county the chance to complete their first triathlon.
Students from local primary schools will aim to emulate the success of the British triathlete and the current Olympic, European and Commonwealth champion, who is now poised to add to his medal collection at Rio De Janeiro this summer.
Over the day, they will take part in a special triathlon “taster” experience by taking advantage of the school’s sporting facilities to swim 30m, cycle 1km and run 400m.
Alistair visited the school to join Linley & Simpson directors, Will Linley and Nick Simpson, and young participants from Ashville College for an insight into the gruelling training regime he has to undertake every day.
He also shared top tips for following in his footprints and becoming an Olympic champion.
Will Linley, who was part of the Linley & Simpson charity fund-raising team who took part in the triathlon organised by Alistair at Harewood House last year, said: “I know from experience how hard a triathlon is – but this is hopefully the perfect introduction for the stars of tomorrow.
“We hope this event will spur on the next generation of budding Brownlees.
“Alistair and his brother, Jonny, are wonderful ambassadors – not just for sport, but for their home county of Yorkshire.
“We are delighted to be associated with such champions in helping to launch this event and we hope that it inspires Yorkshire’s young sporting talent to go for gold in the future.”
He added: “Our backing of this event is part of a wider campaign of ours to promote the sporting skills of children across Yorkshire, as well as raise money for good causes and charities in the communities where we operate across West and North Yorkshire.”
Linley & Simpson has a network of 11 offices across Yorkshire, including Harrogate, Ripon, Wetherby, York, Saltaire, Ilkley, Wakefield and four in Leeds – Chapel Allerton, Horsforth, Roundhay and Leeds city centre.
