Yorkshire furniture manufacturer named partnership supplier of the year

Yorkshire-based educational furniture manufacturer British Thornton has gained industry recognition after being awarded Partnership Supplier of the Year at the Findel Education Annual Supplier Conference.

Presented during a ceremony at Old Trafford, the award acknowledges the valuable contribution made by British Thornton as part of the company’s alliance with Findel Education, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of educational resources.

Based in Keighley, British Thornton specialises in manufacturing furniture for education, schools and science laboratories. Enjoying considerable expansion in the market, the company has an annual turnover of £30 million.

Last year, British Thornton secured a partnership with Findel Education, agreeing upon a three-year business plan which presents both sides with further opportunities for growth. Findel Education boasts an impressive and widespread portfolio of brands, including Hope Education, GLS, and Philip Harris.

Commenting on the decision to present British Thornton with the award, Chris Mahady, managing director of Findel, said: “Over the last nine months, we have embarked upon a revolutionary journey with British Thornton.

“They approached Findel with an innovative customer-focused programme which has given both parties several opportunities to collaborate in mutually beneficial activity, using each other’s strengths to best effect.”

Receiving the award on behalf of British Thornton, chief executive Gerard Toplass, said: “Everyone at British Thornton is very excited at receiving this award and we firmly believe it only galvanises the opportunity we have to work together. We will continue to invest together, and I am sure both businesses will continue to prosper.”

In September 2015, British Thornton united with fellow Yorkshire company Claughtons and Scottish-based EME Furniture to become the UK’s largest manufacturer of educational furniture.
