Phase one of a landmark city centre development gets the go ahead

A new mixed use community in the north of Leeds city centre has today received the green light for development of its first phase, a 182-bed contemporary hotel.

This landmark regeneration project is being developed by a consortium of Singapore-listed companies led by Heeton Holdings Ltd and will make a major contribution to extending the quality of the city centre beyond the inner ring road.

The scheme will create a sustainable new urban destination on the 2.45 acre Bridge Street site that was once occupied by British Gas prior to their relocation to Holbeck.

The first phase of this scheme will be the refurbishment and extension of an existing office building at the south of the development, into a 182-bed contemporary hotel set within this new public realm.

Edwin Liu, country head (UK & Europe) at Heeton Holdings Ltd, said: “We are delighted to receive approval of the application for the first phase of our scheme having worked closely with the Leeds City Council and key stakeholders. We shall continue to work in collaboration on the remaining phases of this exciting regeneration project.”

Heeton Holdings Ltd has been in conversations with internationally recognised hotel brands, and plans to capture the increasing demand of a hotel of this size and quality in this part of the city following the success of the First Direct Arena and the up and coming development at Victoria Gate. Site preparation works are now well underway with construction due to begin in 2017.

The developers are soon to outline their vision for the wider site, which responds to its ideal location in the city centre close to the emerging Victoria Gate scheme and the emerging creative quarter in the Mabgate district.

Proposals for the second phase of this major regeneration scheme at the north-eastern fringe of Leeds city centre will be on display as part of a pre-application consultation in the coming weeks.
