Over recent seasons’, the club has invested heavily in making alterations to The CNG stadium, in a bid to make it suitable for all members of the community, including disabled people and wheelchair users.
One of Harrogate Town’s key aims is to boost its “community club “ ethos and the investment, which was match funded by the Football Foundation, now allows up to 20 wheelchair users to watch matches from the comfort of the covered Sterling Motors stand.
In order to ensure their efforts are onside, Harrogate Town is inviting wheelchair users and customers of Disability Action Yorkshire to The CNG Stadium this Saturday (August 27) free of charge, to watch the joint league leaders take on Nuneaton Town.
Daniel McGeachie, Harrogate Town’s Head of Communications, said: “It is a key goal of ours to make The CNG stadium a true community facility, one that welcomes all and gives disabled people the confidence to come along to home games. Since the end of the last season we have been working hard to make these important alterations.
“We now have room for 20 wheelchairs at the front of the stadium, which we know is considerably more than at other well-known Premier League and Football League clubs.
“If we are to achieve our long term goals of growing our supporter base, then making the ground as accessible and welcoming as possible has to be high on our agenda.
“Disability Action Yorkshire is able to provide invaluable insight for us, hence inviting those in wheelchairs to come along for free this Saturday.”
Disability Action Yorkshire Trustee Andrew Newton said: “It is great news that Harrogate Town sees the value of making its ground truly inclusive and accessible, and this is to be applauded.
“Having invested in these facilities, I am delighted they have come to Disability Action Yorkshire and are offering wheelchair users the opportunity to test these improvements for ourselves, and to give our honest opinion.”
Harrogate Town v Nuneaton kicks off at 3pm this Saturday (August 27) and wheelchair users are asked to arrive at the ground by 2.30pm.
