A South Yorkshire public relations and media training agency took one of the top spots at last night’s Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

Capital B Media, based in Millhouse Green near Penistone, collected the Business Growth Award at the ceremony, which took place at Magna Science Adventure Centre.

The firm, which has taken on two new full-time employees this year, has built up a portfolio of PR clients from the public, private and third sectors. A number of new client wins have seen them expand into Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire.

The agency, which has doubled its workforce over the past two years, provides UK-wide media training and crisis communications services, and its national media training clients include the Care Quality Commission and The Pensions Regulator.

The Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce Business Awards are designed to reward excellence and celebrate local success. The business growth award, sponsored by RNN Training, recognised a business which, through outstanding vision and leadership, has achieved a year on year growth.

Kate Betts, director of Capital B Media, said: “We’ve had another brilliant year following the addition of more staff and a series of client wins, so it feels great to be recognised for all the hard work the team have put in over the past few months.

“The business is continuing to go from strength to strength and we’re all really excited for what the future holds.”

Capital B Media celebrated its tenth anniversary in the summer and staff are now looking forward to next month’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

The firm is shortlisted for Outstanding Small Public Relations Consultancy, and account manager Joshua Nutt has been named as a finalist in the Outstanding Young Communicator of the Year category. The ceremony will be in Leeds on Thursday, November 17.
