Following another record shopping spree across the UK – with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend recording an estimated £5.8 billion sales, the majority online – drivers are facing their biggest Christmas delivery challenge yet says a leading contracting specialist.
Leeds-based Nova Contracting director Marcus Green said: “For shoppers the discount spree is done, but for the transport and logistics sector the challenge has only just begun. As well as meeting vital Christmas delivery deadlines, New Year sales will follow and a surge in returns of all those unwanted or ill-fitting gifts.
“Delivery drivers are in unprecedented demand and we’re anticipating contractor registrations remaining high throughout the next two months, for temporary drivers, packaging teams and administration staff across the transport and logistics sector.
“It is a major operation, both for the contract workforce and the recruitment agencies working to meet their client deadlines, but year after year they do an incredible job. We’re hoping that despite the forecasts for freezing temperatures and latest Met Office predictions of a White Christmas in some areas, with more snow through January, that the roads will stay clear to help our drivers meet that challenge.”
Nova operates across the logistics, industrial, education, healthcare, catering and hospitality sectors, working with the UK’s leading recruitment agencies and contractors to reduce costs, increase profits and deliver flexible contracting solutions.
