The Beehive Inn at Thorner, part of Ainsty Inns, has been shortlisted for an industry award that recognises the most tantalising food from across the region.

Iain Wilkinson, The Beehive’s head chef, is shortlisted among the final four in the Boutique Pubs category of the 2017 Food Porn Awards which last year saw more than 250 entries. Among them were TV chef Simon Rimmer’s Cheshire-based restaurant, Earle by Simon Rimmer, Manchester House, as well as restaurants from well-known groups, including The Botanist, Blackhouse and the New Moon Company.

Iain’s lemon meringue with strawberry textures impressed the judges and he will now go head to head in a cook-off against chefs from the Michelin-starred The Pour House in Leeds and The Star Inn at Harome as well as Ye Olde Sun Inn at Colton.

Iain said: “I am overwhelmed that one of my dishes has been recognised for this year’s Food Porn Awards. I always put a great deal of effort and passion into my work and being nominated for this award has inspired me to challenge myself even further.”

The Food Porn Awards are open to chefs throughout Yorkshire and the North West of England. They aim to showcase the best of good-looking food; therefore the nomination is yet another success to add to the list of recent achievements for Ainsty Inns, which saw one of is pubs crowned Best Wine Pub in the UK in 2015. The judges are looking for chefs that can create attractive, exciting dishes that customers cannot resist, whether these be well known favourites or modern innovative recipes.

Antony Pratt, owner of Ainsty Inns, said: “We are incredibly proud to have Iain as a part of our team at the Beehive as he has brought such an original and fresh approach to the dishes we turn out and is sharing his creative influence across the group. We are excited to see his creative work continue to flourish over the coming months and wish him the best of luck for the final.”

The Beehive Inn prides itself on delivering excellent customer service standards and quality of food, using only the freshest local produce.

Iain, who has worked at Tom Kitchin’s Michelin-starred restaurant The Kitchin in Edinburgh, will be asked to recreate his dish at the finalist cook-off in the Food Porn Awards kitchen on 20 January 2017.

The final winners will be announced at the Food Porn Awards exhibition in March 2017, which will be held at the Northern Restaurant and Bar Show in Manchester.
