Sub-contract engineering company PCT is rolling out extra services for motorists as the popularity of camping and caravanning continues to grow.
PCT manufactures up to 50,000 tow bars each year and this month is doubling the size of the fitting operation at its Sheffield base.
The investment at PCT comes as the UK’s camping and caravanning industry continues to enjoy rapid growth.
Last year, UK residents took more than 17 million camping and caravanning trips and that figure is expected to rise to 17.9 million in 2017 and to over 21 million in 2020, according to Mintel.
PCT, which was founded in 1926, is a specialist sub contract engineering company operating in a number of sectors including towbar manufacture and fitting.
“There has been bumper growth in the camping and caravanning sector in recent years, “ said James Harding-Terry, managing director at PCT.
“More and more families want to “get away from it all” and the poor performance of the pound against the Euro means Brits are happy to holiday in the UK. We’ve seen a year on year increase in the number of towbars we’re manufacturing and selling.
“The camping and caravanning market is set to be worth more than £3.2 billion by 2020 and as one of Europe’s leading towbar manufacturers we want to ensure we can meet demand and offer our customers a first-class fitting service.”
PCT is able to fit a full range of towbars – flange, swan necks and higher end detachables which are also growing in popularity. PCT has also invested in two mobile fitting units which will be visiting dealerships to fit products.
