Just eight months after its launch, DPD’s unique YourDPD app has chalked up a major landmark with its 1 millionth user download.

Johan Ortiz, from Sheffield, downloaded the app to become the one millionth user and was presented with £250 worth of vouchers by Andy Markham, general manager – DPD Sheffield, to mark the occasion.

Parcel delivery company, DPD, launched the ground breaking app in May 2016 to enable customers to take complete control over their parcel deliveries, and ensure that they never miss a delivery again.

Your DPD enables customers to create their own profile, set their delivery preferences and track deliveries. The app even allows customers to request that drivers always avoid certain times of the day, such as the school run.

Your DPD users can set-up a series of preferences for those occasions when they are not going to be at home for a delivery. These can include specifying their chosen neighbour to receive deliveries, a designated ‘safe place’ on their own property with a photograph, and their preferred DPD Pickup parcel shop for parcels to be taken to – all of which will be relayed to their driver.

Thanks to smartphone geo-location based technology the app can also automatically alert the DPD driver when an app user returns home. So if a parcel couldn’t be successfully delivered earlier in the day, the driver can now make another delivery before they finish their round. The app user is sent a notification to advise that the driver is returning with their parcel.

The app is free to download from Apple and Android app stores and is compatible with Apple Watches.

DPD’s CEO Dwain McDonald said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to reach one million downloads in such a short space of time, and it’s great to see Johan enjoying the benefits of our app, which in turn, helps us give him the best possible delivery experience.

“We’ve had so much positive feedback from users. You wouldn’t really expect a parcel delivery app to generate this kind of a response, but it makes peoples’ lives easier, makes them feel they are in control and helps them get their hands on their stuff quicker. It has become a very empowering tool for more than a million online shoppers.

“We know that one of the most popular features is the ability to tell us times of the day that aren’t convenient for a delivery. We always use the example of the school run, but there are lots of other uses for that feature.

“The option to go back to customers who were out earlier in the day and make a successful delivery when they get home is streets ahead of every other delivery company, and is just one of the reasons customers vote us number one, again and again.

“It is amazing to see how quickly customers have embraced the app and learned how to tailor the features to their own lifestyle. It takes personalisation to a whole new level and it is clear from the response we’ve had so far that customers want more of this kind of tech-based personalisation. Here’s to the two millionth download!”
