Shrink wrapping specialist Yorkshire Packaging Systems is championing the positive impact of apprentices with three new hires ahead of National Apprenticeship Week.

The recruits include Jake Martin, George Reed-Hill, and Kieron Karluty; all three join YPS’ Service Engineer Apprenticeship programme. In light of Jake’s success – following two years on the programme – the latest additions George and Kieron, represent an expansion of the scheme and an investment in the service department at Dewsbury-based YPS.

As the country embraces the tenth annual National Apprenticeship Week, designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy, YPS is looking at the contributions of its own new starters.

Working alongside a team of experienced engineers at YPS workshop, the programme involves learning the ins-and-outs of the award-winning firm’s shrink wrapping machines. Their work includes a variety of customer on-site visits at several well-known clients, many operating in the drinks industry.

YPS is confident that by investing in apprentices it can future-proof its business while supporting young professionals seeking a diverse job in a fast-paced industry.

With a qualification from Hull Technical College, George brings a Level 3 in Electrical Engineering and a 17th Edition in wiring regulations. Jake and Kieron both attend Bradford College, working towards achieving industry recognised accreditations.

As well as servicing and maintaining YPS’ state-of-the-art equipment, all three apprentices have been involved with a large number and variety of installations, including some multi-million pound contracts.

Glyn Johnson, MD of YPS, said: “These apprenticeships are part of YPS’ commitment to investing in the future. We’re absolutely delighted with the progress Jake, George and Kieron have been making – National Apprenticeship Week is a fitting time to reflect on their fantastic achievements.

“We’re thrilled with the valuable contributions they have already made, they bring new a fresh perspective which we find invaluable. Alongside their learning at Bradford College, we’re proud to be offering the next generation structured real-world, practical experience at YPS.”
