A Sheffield based care centre which opened its doors at the end of last year has been awarded an overall ‘Good’ rating following its first visit from the Care Quality Commission.
Wood Hill Lodge opened its doors just four months ago and during a two day inspection by the Care Quality Commission it was rated ‘Good’ in all key areas. The centre forms part of the Wood Hill Care Complex which was pioneered by family-run care business Horizon.
Horizon recognised that Sheffield faced an acute shortage of purpose built facilities capable of supporting individuals with complex care needs and their families. The purpose-built facility provides short term respite care for individuals living with multiple and complex care.
Inspectors concluded Wood Hill Lodge was “safe, effective, caring, responsive to residents needs and well-led” and was awarded an overall ‘Good’ rating in all areas. The service was praised for its “detailed and demonstrative” risk assessment procedures, the safety of the building, staff recruitment and training processes and the standards of care provided by staff members. Inspectors considered Wood Hill Lodge to be a “pleasant environment in which people enjoyed their meals and time together… people were laughing and smiling.
The observations of interactions between people and care staff showed positive caring relationships had been created.” Management and staff were praised in the report for their “kind, caring, patient and sympathetic” manner which highlighted the strong relationships which had been formed between carer and client.
Throughout the inspection, residents were asked their views and opinions on the service provided at Wood Hill Lodge, with one resident stating “I love the staff, they are my friends.” Relatives of residents were also asked their thoughts on the overall service and staff members, prompting positive responses such as “I really do trust the staff; they seem really competent and well trained.”
Staff members also spoke highly of their job role and the management team at Wood Hill Lodge, praising them saying they “help us work together for the benefit of the people that use this service.”
Laura Higginbottom, managing director, Horizon Care, said: “Receiving such positive feedback, especially from our clients, is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of our members of staff to providing a safe and friendly environment which supports individuals and their families with the dignity and respect they rightly deserve.
“Achieving a ‘good’ standard in all areas is something that we’re proud to have achieved.
“We opened Wood Hill Lodge to provide a safe, supportive environment to ensure individuals living with complex care needs can receive the support needed to help them enjoy the highest possible living standards and it’s reassuring that many of the provisions we have implemented, from the design of Wood Hill Lodge to the way in which care is delivered in the centre has been recognised by the CQC.”
