Google is main guest at launch of FSB Connect in Sheffield

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is launching “FSB Connect” – a new regular monthly business networking event in Sheffield. This is part of a wider initiative which has seen a programme of regular events planned for major towns and cities across the UK.

The Sheffield event will take place on the first Wednesday of each month at Farm Road Social Club, Sheffield, S2 2TP, with the launch taking place at 6pm– 8.15pm on Wednesday July 5. Attendance will be open to all businesses large and small; start-up and pre-start businesses will be especially welcomed.

FSB regional development manager Neville Martin said: “The main focus of every event will be personal networking; we aim to make the events about the businesses taking part, not about the FSB! Everyone attending will join their fellow business owners and entrepreneurs over a buffet supper in a friendly, informal environment and be able to share their business ideas and secure the potential for joint collaboration.

“Aside from this, every event will feature a short ‘Top Tips’ presentation from local business advice specialist Rob Taylor and an informative guest speaker. For the launch event, we are delighted to announce that experts from Google will be on hand to outline how Sheffield’s new Digital Garage can provide a source of vast (free!) expertise for developing businesses.

“Through this initiative the FSB is reinforcing its optimism about the future of the economy in light of the ongoing string of business successes being reported daily: growing levels of business investment, shrinking unemployment, record numbers of business start-ups and a proliferation of business success stories dominating the headlines.

“Whilst there are undoubted challenges ahead, FSB maintains that the UK’s business outlook has rarely been so positive and there is every reason to be optimistic about the UK’s economic potential, and Yorkshire’s in particular.

“Through these events FSB is backing local enterprise. We hope to make a genuine contribution towards stimulating economic activity, underpinning business growth and encouraging start-ups and those new to the business community.

“We are particularly grateful to Louise Haigh MP, who has been instrumental in setting up an effective partnership to drive the initiative forward. She has also agreed to be our ‘Patron MP’ to provide parliamentary recognition and support. We expect to see her along to one of the early meetings as soon as her Westminster commitments allow.”

FSB Connect is open to all people connected with businesses. No membership is required but booking is essential. Booking details can be obtained by emailing neville.martin@fsb.org.uk.
