SHE’S built a thriving business from nothing and regularly speaks to large groups of people at workshops and seminars – but the managing director of one of Harrogate’s leading accountancy practices is about to face her most daunting challenge yet.
Teresa Bowe, who runs CCF Accountancy, will join thousands of other runners for the Yorkshire Plusnet Marathon in York on Sunday. It is her first such event – and she’s under no illusions about how gruelling it will be.
She said: “I hadn’t really done any running before this year, other than a couple of attempts around the Stray – and even then, the distance between lamp-posts was about my limit!
“I ended up entering the marathon as a joke. A t-shirt came up on my Facebook feed that read ‘I don’t really like running’.
I tagged my personal trainer saying I should buy it for myself, and then a solicitor friend commented and asked if I’d run the Yorkshire marathon with them – and I said yes without really thinking it through.”
Never one to renege on a promise, however, Teresa began a strict training regime – and while she says cycling will always be her first love, she’s hoping to complete Sunday’s challenge without disgracing herself.
“I’ve got my distance up and I can run a good 10km before I need to rest, and then I’ll walk for a breather in between. I’m determined to finish, but I will be reverting to my bike once it’s over!” she said.
Teresa is running on behalf of Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa and hopes to raise £2,500 for the charity, which provides family-led care for young people with life-shortening conditions.
