Cloth Hall Court hosts Public Sector Communications Academy 2017

Well Met, the conferencing office for Leeds Beckett University, will be hosting the 2017 LGcommunications Public Sector Communications Academy on today and tomorrow, at the newly refurbished Cloth Hall Court.

The sold out Academy, which is organised by LGcommunications and the Government Communications Service, will be the largest event that the Grade II listed Cloth Hall Court has held to date.

The event will see around 400 attendees come together over the two days for a series of thought-provoking seminars, discussions and workshops about crucial issues affecting local authorities.

Leeds was chosen as the host city for the event due to its excellent accessibility and choice of high quality venues; with Well Met chosen for a second time to host the Academy.

The first occasion was in 2009 at the Rose Bowl, shortly after the venue was first opened, and at the time it was the largest event that the Rose Bowl had ever hosted. Eight years later the same is true of Well Met’s newest venue Cloth Hall Court, which has recently opened as a dedicated conference centre right in the heart of Leeds.

A variety of challenges and opportunities for local governments will be explored at the Academy. Topics range from machines and automation to campaign planning, as well as working with the NHS. Special sessions will be held on more poignant topics which will reflect on the lessons of recent tragedies, such as the Grenfell disaster and Manchester Arena Bombing.

Clare Vidler, conference manager at Well Met, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for us to show exactly what Cloth Hall Court, and our team, are able to achieve with a truly packed house!

“The Academy attracts a variety of influential figures from a range of organisations in public sector communications so it’s a pleasure to bring them all together in our newest venue with its fantastic location and great facilities. We hope they enjoy everything that Leeds has to offer.”
