Runners taking part in this year’s Doncaster 10K organised by sports event management company, Curly’s Athletes, will have their eyes on the pies at the finish line!

Thousands of competitors will be handed a free pork pie supplied by family-run Doncaster bakery, The Topping Pie Company when they complete the race.

The Doncaster 10K takes place on November 26 at Doncaster Racecourse, and has been organised in conjunction with Doncaster Council. Around 2000 runners will race in the closed road event which starts outside the racecourse and finishes in front of the grandstand.

Experienced athletes and novice runners alike will be handed a Toppings Dinky pork pie, a perfect balance of protein, carbs, fat and salt to aid recovery at the finish line by a team of five from the bakery. The company will also set up a buffet station to sell their pork pies to race goers and spectators on the day.

Curly’s Athletes is a collection of amateur and professional athletes, coaches and sports industry experts and one of its key aims in the area is to offer support in changing lifestyles.

Most people would like to introduce some form of regular physical activity as part of their lifestyle and often just need a reason, a motivation or someone to give them the belief they can do it. The group helps to provide that with a variety of events that create greater accessibility for people no matter what their ability or background.

Once people have joined a race Curly’s Athletes brings them into a community that makes progress and continuing with an active lifestyle a lot easier.  Alongside this it ensures all its events are “good to race” for those looking to race for a position or hit a new PB.

Jonathan Frary, one of the founding members of Curly’s Athletes, said: “Wherever we go with our events we work hard to promote the local area and businesses, so a chance meeting with the awesome Topping Pie Company team gave us an opportunity to make the Doncaster 10K event feel even more special for our athletes alongside the fact we love pies!”

Roger Topping, managing director, The Topping Pie Company, said: “We are delighted to support Curly’s Athletes in providing our Dinky pork pies to all the runners crossing the finishing line.

“What more incentive do you need than to tuck into one of our delicious, handcrafted pies at the end of an energetic race!  It’s fantastic to be a part of this community event and we are proud to be feeding both athletes and race goers alike on the day.”
