One of the UK’s most influential business leaders will be guest of honour at the Institute of Directors’ South Yorkshire dinner.
Lady Barbara Judge, the IoD’s first female chairman and a distinguished commercial lawyer, will join guests on May 3, at the historic Cutler’s Hall in the heart of Sheffield.
Lady Judge has a wealth of international experience from senior executive and non-executive roles in the private and public sectors. She is chair of the Pension Protection Fund and the Energy Institute of University College London, as well as a non-executive director of Portmeirion Group.
Lady Judge received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the national Forward Ladies Awards 2017 in Leeds. Forward Ladies is the UK’s largest business support network for women in business.
She will be joined by Master Cutler Ken Cooke for the popular black-tie event, which is expected to attract around 200 guests from industries ranging from advanced manufacturing to professional services and the public and third sectors.
Ken Cooke was installed as Master of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire in October 2017, becoming the 379th Master Cutler. He has been involved in running steel and tool-making businesses in Sheffield for 30 years.
He started his engineering career at the Central Technical School in Sheffield and completed an apprenticeship in the training centre at Edward Pryor’s.
His first business, CTW Hardfacing, provided heat and corrosion resistant metal coatings to manufacturing companies. He formed a total of six companies, supplying engineering services throughout the UK and Europe.
The Master Cutler has made education his top priority for his year at the helm, arguing that it is “critical to allow young people be the best that they can be.
Keith Jackson, chairman of the IoD in South Yorkshire, said: “Our South Yorkshire annual dinner goes from strength to strength and has quickly established itself as one of the highlights of the regional business calendar.
“This year we have two inspiring speakers and I can’t wait for what promises to be another superb event.”
Ticket prices have been held at 2017 rates. They are £55 for IoD members and £65 for non-members. Tables of ten are available for £495. To book a place, email firstname.lastname@example.org
