A Leeds-based ecommerce agency is celebrating eight years of business success by having its most successful ever start to a year following an influx of new clients.

Onstate, based at Graingers Way in Leeds, launched in 2010 with a team of two staff and a handful of small clients. The business now employs 20 people including retail strategists, programmers, digital designers and account managers and has a client base composed of consumer and high street brands.

Later this year it is also looking to expand operations, investigating potential sites in the North East and in Dublin, where many of its clients are based.

The business was founded by directors Richard Day and Chris Marshall. The pair originally formed Onstate to provide clients with a complementary mix of Richard’s brand and creative skills with Chris’s commercial expertise and retail insight.

With a turnover in excess of a million and an impressive roster of international clients, Chris and Richard have established a highly specialist ecommerce agency which still embodies their original ethos.

Earlier this year Onstate was appointed by department store Fenwick, a national store group with a reputation for distinctiveness and innovation, striking a balance between prestige and value.

This adds to Onstate’s specialist roster of department store clients which includes Brown Thomas, Home Store + More, Arnotts, The Original Factory Shop and Leekes. The agency also holds the prestigious accreditation of being an approved business partner of both Magento and Salesforce

Other recent client wins include John Greed Jewellery, an online provider of top jewellery brands and the leading online UK stockist of Pandora jewellery and exclusive male grooming brand, Scrubd.

The Onstate team currently works with a wide variety of clients including major high street brands and specialist luxury retailers ranging from Alexa Chung, Crockett & Jones and Brown Thomas to Second Nature, and Eden Being.

Richard Day, creative director, said: “It’s been an exciting eight years and as a business we’ve grown and developed alongside significant changes in the world of retail and online commerce. Ecommerce is a sector that is constantly evolving and the challenge has been to adapt to take advantage of the opportunities this affords.

“Our prestigious industry partnerships and accreditations which we are immensely proud of mean that clients have the assurance of working with a reputable, trustworthy team.

“Keeping on top of changes in the technology and responding to clients needs to ensure they remain as competitive as possible has been key to our success over the past eight years and also allowed us to attract and retain some of the best talent that the region has to offer.

“We intend to stay ahead of our own competitors by attracting the best ecommerce specialists to our team. Further expansion with two new Onstate sites later this year is particularly exciting as we’ve got aspirations to grow our teams in new cities as well as in Leeds.”

Chris Marshall, director and co-founder, said: “We build and look after online stores for a whole range of clients from local start-ups and global fashion brands to leading department stores. Since day one we’ve always been about immersion and really becoming part of our client’s team and this is still the case today.

“The variation in our work means we are always striving for excellence with very little chance to stand still. 2018 is already shaping up to be our best year yet and we look forward to adding to our client list and strengthening some of our positive partnerships as well as adding exciting new talent to the team.”
