A leading barristers chambers is sponsoring a charity bike ride to help end youth homelessness
Staged by national property consultancy Carter Jonas and now in its fifth year, the ride has raised more than £40,000 for charity to date. The money used goes towards the renovation of empty and derelict properties, bringing them back into use as affordable and safe homes.
Landmark Chambers is a leading chambers in the UK offering integrated advocacy and advice in planning, property, environmental and public law. The chambers has a long working relationship with Carter Jonas. A team of eight riders are taking part in the 40-mile social ride Pedalthon which is being held on Friday 11 May and is the largest charity bike ride for the business community in Yorkshire.
Richard Bolton, practice manager at Landmark Chambers, said: “Landmark Chambers is delighted to be sponsoring and participating in the 2018 Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon.
“This will be the second time we have taken part. Everyone who cycled previously really enjoyed the whole experience – the scenery, the camaraderie, the aches and pains – so this year we wanted to go one step further, raising vital money and increasing awareness of the amazing work that LandAid does.
“Our involvement, alongside all of the other cyclists and sponsors, will enable LandAid to keep providing safe and affordable accommodation for vulnerable young people.
“Our team is made up of real mixed abilities and training remains a closely-guarded secret – a combination of hours in the saddle and close scrutiny of the Tour de France. We’re focusing on the finish line and a well-earned pint back at the finish line.”
This year’s Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon is again supported by Yorkshire brewer T&R Theakston and will start and end at the brewery in Masham. Cyclists can choose from either the 40-mile social ride or the 80-mile challenge, both through the striking Yorkshire countryside. Regular food stops along the route will supply some of the best produce the region has to offer.
Amy Souter, associate partner based at the Harrogate office of Carter Jonas, said: “We’re delighted to welcome back the Landmark Chambers team and to have their support for the great work being done by LandAid. The dedication shown by our sponsors to raise money and make a difference to a disadvantaged part of the community is inspiring.”
Since 2012, LandAid has approved over £850,000 in grant funding to 11 charity projects in Yorkshire and the Humber. These projects are providing 119 bed spaces for young people at risk of being homeless.
The Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon entry is open to both individuals and corporate teams, and costs £90 per rider, £480 per team of 6, £660 per team of 8 or £840 per team of 10 (all including VAT).
