South Yorkshire bakery, The Topping Pie Company, has launched a search for budding runners to take part in this year’s Doncaster 10K organised by sports event management company, Curly’s Athletes.
The bakery wants to create #TeamPie to run and raise a slice of cash for YMCA Doncaster, its chosen charity this year, who support local vulnerable young people.
The family business is once again supporting the Doncaster 10K with free pork pies to be handed out to runners when they complete the race. This year, the bakery is looking for five local female runners and five male runners from novices to seasoned athletes to rise to the challenge to join #TeamPie and take part in the November race which starts at Doncaster racecourse.
The chosen team of ten will help to earn a crust for a very worthy independent charity in YMCA Doncaster, which has been supporting vulnerable young people in the town for more than 160 years. The charity’s core work provides help with finding a home through supported accommodation and helping people in need to lead a responsible adult life.
As well as running for funds, #TeamPie participants will each receive a branded T Shirt and Hoody when they sign up.
The Doncaster 10K takes place on Sunday 25 November at Doncaster Racecourse and has been organised in conjunction with Doncaster Council. Around 2000 runners will race in the closed road event which starts outside the racecourse and finishes in front of the grandstand.
Roger Topping, managing director, The Topping Pie Company, said: “We are delighted to support the very popular Doncaster 10K once again this year with pies for every runner.
“We are also pleased to announce YMCA Doncaster as our Charity of the Year for 2018 and hope that our chosen #TeamPie can raise lots of money for this incredibly important cause, which does such great things for the young people in our town who find themselves homeless and with nowhere else to turn.
“As a local family run business, we are always looking to give something back to the community we live and work in and we recognise that YMCA Doncaster works tirelessly to provide a safe environment and support into adult life for some of the town’s most vulnerable youngsters,” continued Roger Topping.
Lee-Ann Clark, business support and marketing officer, YMCA, Doncaster, said: “With 2018 marking our 160th anniversary we are grateful to Roger and his team at The Topping Pie Company for choosing YMCA Doncaster as their charity to support this year. It’s wonderful that a local business wants to make a difference in the town by supporting a local charity.
Everyone at YMCA Doncaster is excited about the 10k race in November, and we hope that our local community will get involved in #TeamPie.”
Jonathan Frary, one of the founding members of Curly’s Athletes, said: “We love working with The Topping Pie Company team and have been amazed at the reaction of runners to getting their well-earned pie at the end of the 2017 Doncaster 10k event!
“#TeamPie is a great opportunity to have some fun and support a great local charity. Alongside the kit, some fame and obvious potential for more pies, Curly’s will help give guidance to #TeamPie on their approach and how to train towards the big day.”
