Local food producers get together to support charity ride

Cyclists taking part in this year’s Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon will once again enjoy a locally sourced feast supplied by some of the region’s finest producers – while raising funds for youth homelessness.

Organised by Iconic Cycling Events, the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon is the largest annual charity bike ride for the business community in Yorkshire and last year attracted more than 350 riders from across the UK’s property and business community.

Now in its fifth year, the ride takes place on Friday 11 May.  It will raise money for LandAid, the property industry charity working to end youth homelessness in the UK. The money used will go towards the renovation of empty and derelict properties in the region, bringing them back into use as affordable and safe homes. To date the ride has raised more than £40,000 for charity.

Co-sponsored by Yorkshire brewer T&R Theakston, the ride starts and ends at the brewery in Masham and showcases the glorious food and drink available in the country.  Yorkshire Tea, the Wensleydale Creamery, Riverford Organic Farmers, Appleton’s butchers, Heck Food, Yorkshire Provender and Brymor Ice Cream are just some of the other Yorkshire producers who are supporting the ride.

Riders will be able to take their pick from pork pies, cheese, soup, sausages, ice cream and fruit, all washed down by a steaming hot cup of tea and a pint of Theakston’s finest.  Scheckter’s energy drinks and OTE energy products are also supporting the teams.

Clare Davey, senior energy specialist at National property consultancy Carter Jonas, said: “Yorkshire is rightly proud of its magnificent produce and this is a real point of difference for our ride.

“We’re delighted to have so many of Yorkshire’s fantastic producers supporting our efforts to raise money to support those at risk of youth homelessness again this year. The food on offer is always a huge attraction for the riders who come from all over the UK, enabling them to enjoy a taste of the landscape as well as riding through it.”

Maria Townsend, marketing manager of Yorkshire Provender, said: “We are delighted once again to support the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon with our award-winning soups made just down the road from Masham in Leeming Bar.

“We hope all the riders enjoy a fantastic ride and hope our delicious soups help spur riders to whizz through to the finish while celebrating the very best of Yorkshire, from its tasty produce to the gorgeous scenery.”

Riders will have the choice of an 80-mile challenge ride or a 40-mile social ride, with a 60 mile option, and will enjoy a feast alongside a pint of Theakston’s finest ale at the finish line.

Entry is open to both individuals and corporate teams, and costs £90 per rider or £480 per team of 6 (all including VAT).
