Doncaster bakery supplies Yorkshire pie-cycles for third year

The Pie-Cycle

Yorkshire’s finest food and drink producers will be showcased to the world’s media during the Tour de Yorkshire and Asda Tour de Yorkshire Women’s Race, including award winning Doncaster pie maker, The Topping Pie Company, which will supply its Yorkshire Pie-Cycles for the third year running.

Journalists from across the globe will descend on the county for the international cycle race which begins in Beverley on Thursday, with the finale in Leeds on Sunday.

Media centres will be in place at all the stage finishes in Doncaster, Ilkley, Scarborough and Leeds where journalists can keep up with all the racing action, file copy and feast on delicacies from some of Yorkshire’s best loved food and drink companies.

Family run bakery, The Topping Pie Company has provided its popular Yorkshire Pie-Cycles at The Point in Doncaster, each with a little taste of Yorkshire baked in and specially produced to celebrate the iconic race.

The 450g Yorkshire Pie-Cycles are handcrafted to a family-inspired recipe and include a base layer of British Red Tractor pork meat, coupled with diced chicken breast, Wiltshire ham and marinated in wholegrain honey mustard.  This is all encased in a delicious hot water crust pastry and finished off with a pastry bicycle design on top.

Roger Topping, managing director, The Topping Pie Company, said: “We are delighted to work with the team at Tour de Yorkshire for a successive third year to supply our Yorkshire Pie-Cycles.  They always seem to go down well with the world’s media and it’s great to be part of the fantastic feast on offer from our town and indeed across the region.”

Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It is well known that Yorkshire is home to some of the finest food and drink producers in the country, and many of these will be showcased at the media centres during the Tour de Yorkshire.

“Journalists coming from far and wide to cover the race have been extremely impressed with the spread laid on for them in recent years and we’d be delighted to offer a similarly warm welcome in 2018.

“I would like to thank all companies who have contributed for their generosity and help in making the Tour de Yorkshire a continued success.”
