Disability Action Yorkshire’s new website – which includes a distinct feature allowing disabled people to share their individual stories with the world – has won an award.
The site, tailor-made for the Harrogate charity by digital marketing company, HMA, was awarded the title of Best Website at this year’s Harrogate Advertiser Business Awards.
Disability Action Yorkshire’s website, which has been specifically designed for disabled people, those who support a disabled person and volunteers, was one of six organisations vying for the crown.
Jackie Snape, the charity’s Chief Executive, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that our website has won a Harrogate Advertiser Business Award.
“The new website is a far cry from the one it superseded. It gives visitors up-to-date information on a variety of subjects, including services provided by Disability Action Yorkshire, training, residential care, the Own Goals buddying initiative and assistive technology.
“However, what sets it apart from others is the ‘share your story’ feature.
“We want to hear from disabled people, carers and volunteers about their experiences, be it good or bad, and not just from those we directly support or work with.
“These will enable us to build up a better picture of the challenges facing disabled people on a daily basis, and, whenever possible, help change the way people and businesses behave towards those with a disability.
“Additionally, we will be able to celebrate when a disabled person has had a positive experience, which we believe is equally important.”
