Yorkshire Housing business enterprise coach Sheila McFee, from Skipton, picked up the Enterprise Support Champion top spot at the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) Celebrating Enterprise Awards 2018.
The awards, hosted by Andrew Griffiths MP, took place at the Houses of Parliament.
Sheila was shortlisted alongside two other nominations, Adrian Ashton a freelance enterprise consultant and Shenaaz Chenia from Saint-Gobain, respectively but it was Sheila’s mix of knowledge, experience and heart-felt passion for her work which saw her named enterprise support champion for 2018.
Sheila works in the community investment team at Yorkshire Housing. The team has a range of services available to help Yorkshire Housing tenants and the wider community, including employability and business coaching, grants for personal development and grants for community schemes.
Sheila said: “I was very nervous about today, I must admit I’m absolutely thrilled to be honoured in this way. I really do love what I do, I get such a buzz from helping people start their businesses – I’m just very proud to have my work recognised.”
Employment and enterprise team leader Nikki Flett, who nominated Sheila, said: “This is a well-deserved award. Sheila is a credit to Yorkshire Housing. Her positive outlook and caring nature means that she is able to support our customers to turn their dreams of starting their own business into a reality.”
Other notable winners on the day were EasyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who took home the Lifetime Achievement Award, and David Morgan from Novus, who won Member of the Year.
