Construction works to Scarborough’s new Squash & Racquets Academy have now drawn to a close. Ahead of the original June completion date and despite extreme winter weather conditions, GMI Construction has today handed over the project to their client, Scarborough Rugby Club.
The new facility of four state-of-the-art glass backed courts, primarily funded by the McCabe Family Charitable Foundation, supported by the council and local businesses now sees further work underway in a second phase comprising a trendy and modern juice bar/café with seating area for spectators and an enhanced offering to the existing Baron’s Gym facilities.
The new juice bar will be open to both members and non-members of the club and provide a new Café venue in the Scalby area.
A grand opening ceremony of the new facility will take place in September, prior to which a team of squash enthusiasts and coaches will work closely with community groups and schools to start to introduce squash and racquetball to potential new players in the area, leading to the introduction of local tournaments and leagues to be played locally, regionally and nationally.
Come and try it sessions, free off-peak sessions aimed at all ages and abilities will also be offered as well as club social nights.
