A £3.25m medical facility supported by Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, will open its doors in Barnsley town centre next month, creating capacity for 4,000 extra patients in the area.

The newly built 40,000 sq ft Burleigh Medical Centre will combine two existing GP surgeries in the town operated by the Park Grove General Partnership. The group is opening the new centre to improve the efficiency of its local healthcare services. It has been designed to deliver the highest standard of care in a comfortable, modern and safe environment.

The new site will include an on-site pharmacy, a large car park, and 1,000 sq ft available to let by allied healthcare providers. The partnership is also expecting to take on five new staff in the next 12 months to support the expansion.

Since 2016, the group has owned and operated three GP surgeries, catering to almost 12,000 patients in Barnsley. The clinics based at Park Grove and Cope Street will merge and move to their new home on Burleigh Street.

Dr Sumanth Chikthimmah, general practitioner for the Park Grove General Partnership, said: “With the opening of the Burleigh Medical Centre, we’re excited to build on our surgeries’ excellent reputation for providing a high standard of healthcare.

“Relocating the two sites under one roof means being able to provide improved services and facilities in a convenient and accessible town-centre location. This exciting project, which has been many years in the making, will be a huge boost for the people of Barnsley. Many organisations have worked very hard to bring our vision into reality and this centre will be a great place for our patients and staff.

“The team at Lloyds Bank were absolutely invaluable throughout the entire process. From planning to acquiring the land and building the new site. Lloyds Bank’s tailored funding package and healthcare expertise helped us go from a greenfield site to an almost 40,000 square foot state-of-the art facility.”

Malcolm Swan, senior healthcare banking consultant at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “The Park Grove General Partnership is a clear example of a thriving healthcare provider growing to meet the increased needs of patients across the region.

“Our recent Healthcare Index has revealed that confidence amongst GPs is at its highest level for five years, with many practices merging and looking ahead to growth.

“It’s important for Lloyds Bank to support projects like this as part of our mission to help Britain prosper, and we’re pleased that our team of specialist healthcare managers were able to help this business expand.”
