Local resident chooses “Copperfields” for new specialist nursing home

Yorkshire-based Exemplar Health Care has named its new Leeds home Copperfields, following a suggestion made by local Cross Green resident David Wormald.

The care group’s home names play homage to their surroundings and for the first time in their history, Exemplar collaborated with local gardening group, Cross Green Growing Together, to choose a name which reflects the area. The gardening group were provided with some brief guidelines and over a fortnight period, tens of entries were collected.

The winning name, Copperfields, was suggested by David Wormald and as a thank you he was awarded with a Samsung Galaxy tablet along with an invitation to the official opening of the home in Autumn 2019.

The name Copperfields was chosen because of its relevance to the local area along with its simplicity and homely feel.

David said: “I am thrilled to have been involved in the naming of Exemplar’s new home in Cross Green. I have lived in the area for more than 30 years and it will be great to see this new build on the site which was formerly wasteland. As a group we’re excited to see the building come to life when residents move in and the gardens bloom.”

Copperfields will provide high-quality specialist care for adults who live with mental health conditions and complex dementia. The home is set to provide a range of jobs for local people and recruitment details will be released soon.

Due to open to residents in November 2019, Copperfields will join Exemplar Health Care’s other Leeds home, Ravensdale, located nearby in Whinmoor.
