Sheffield City Region LEP chairman and former Volkswagen Group president James Muir has been named as the keynote speaker at the IoD South Yorkshire Annual Dinner.
More than 200 business leaders from sectors ranging from advanced manufacturing to professional services and the public and third sectors will attend the black-tie dinner on 2 May at the magnificent Cutlers Hall, Sheffield.
James Muir started his automotive industry career with Ford Motor Company and held various sales and marketing positions, including sales director for Ford Switzerland and regional director for the North of England.
He joined Volkswagen Group in 2009 as president and CEO of SEAT based in Barcelona and was tasked with revitalising its ailing brand. Over the next four years he led a complete restructure of the company including the development of a new brand and product strategy.
From 2013 until his retirement in 2018, James ran VW Group’s owned national sales companies across more than 20 countries, accounting for over four million vehicle sales.
In January 2019, James became Sheffield City Region LEP chairman, responsible for representing private-sector businesses and setting the strategic direction for the economic growth of the region.
Also speaking at the event will be the 380th Master Cutler, Nicholas Cragg, who spent more than two decades working in the steel industry with Corus. Nick is passionate about raising the business profile of the region for the benefit of manufacturers and attracting new inward investors.
The event will be hosted by BBC Radio 5 Live business correspondent Danni Hewson.
Keith Jackson, chairman of the IoD in South Yorkshire, said: “In just a few years, our South Yorkshire annual dinner has become a must-attend event in the regional business calendar. I’m looking forward to another excellent evening of high quality networking and superb speakers in the unique Cutlers Hall. I’d advise people to book now as we anticipate that the event will sell out.”
Event partners are principal sponsor Sheffield City Region Growth Hub along with Sheffield Universities Managing Directors Club, CMS Law and IoD event patron CNG.
The event starts at 7pm. Ticket prices have been held at £55 for IoD members and £65 for non-members. To book a place, contact Beata Olah on 0113 2430152 or email email@example.com
