Legal eagles take to bikes to raise money for youth homelessness

Jim Speed, partner and cycling team captain at DWF Law LLP

Members of the legal business community are taking to their bikes this June to support a charity which aims to end youth homelessness.

The Leeds office of global legal business DWF Law LLP is fielding a team of 18 cyclists, while leading barristers chambers Landmark Chambers International are entering a team of eight.

Both teams will join more than 400 other riders from the property and business community taking part in the sixth annual Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon on Friday, June 7.

Staged by national property consultancy Carter Jonas, the ride has raised more than £56,000 for charity to date.

The money raised will be used by property industry charity LandAid to renovate empty and derelict properties, bringing them back into use as affordable and safe homes.

DWF Law LLP is a global legal business with 27 offices worldwide including Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle and was ranked as 11th overall most innovative legal business in Europe in the 2018 Financial Times Most Innovative Lawyers Report.  Its team of 18 cyclists are taking part in various of the three available rides.

Award-winning barristers chambers Landmark Chambers offers integrated advocacy and advice in planning, property, environmental and public law.  The chambers have a long working relationship with Carter Jonas and a team of eight riders are taking part in the 40-mile ride Pedalthon.

Organised by cycling experts Iconic Cycling Events, the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon will start and end at Castle Howard. Riders can choose from the 30, 50 or 75 mile routes, all through glorious Yorkshire countryside. A feature of the ride is the regular food stops along the route which showcase some of the best produce the region has to offer.

Amy Souter, partner based at the Harrogate office of Carter Jonas, said: “The Pedalthon grows year on year and has become a firm fixture in the business community’s diary.

“The enthusiasm with which the ride has been embraced by our supporters clearly demonstrates the support for LandAid’s work. We are grateful to DWF for its sponsorship this year, including the ever-popular bar area, and to welcome back our regular supporters, Landmark Chambers.”

Entry is open to both individuals and corporate teams, and costs £60 per rider, £300 per team of 6 or £500 per team of 10 (all inc VAT).
