SmartSearch, an anti-money laundering company based in Ilkley, has committed to a three-year sponsorship deal to support the outreach programme of the Ilkley Trophy.
Run by Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club [ILTSC] each June, the Ilkley Trophy is an elite tennis tournament that is accompanied by a coaching programme reaching up to 2,000 local school children from across Yorkshire.
Marking its fifth year in 2019, the Ilkley Trophy annually brings some of the world’s best tennis competitors to the town for the grass court tournament, vital to players in the run up to Wimbledon. The outreach programme runs alongside the Trophy, bringing children in years four, five and six from local primary schools to ILTSC to take part in free coaching sessions as well as giving them the chance to watch the action up close. There are also specific sessions for local disability groups and adult evening groups, all aimed at taking the sport to new audiences.
James Dobson, marketing director at SmartSearch, said: “We love being based in Ilkley and it’s incredibly important to us that we support our local community. Many of our staff are members at the tennis club or have been to the Ilkley Trophy before and so when the opportunity arose to support young people, in particular through the event it seemed like a natural fit.
“We’re excited to be involved in the tournament and hope that one day we will witness one of those who benefited from the outreach programme return to claim the Ilkley Trophy title.”
ILTSC Manager and Ilkley Trophy Tournament Director Charlie Maunder said: “It is fantastic to welcome SmartSearch on board this year in what is a new partnership for us with a similarly world class organisation. At ILTSC we have been rewarded for the hard work of the first four years of the Trophy with a ten year term to host the tournament until 2027, allowing us for the first time to look long term and bring in partners like SmartSearch to help grow the event each year.
“The outreach programme is such an important part of the Ilkley Trophy and we know that with the additional support this year it will continue to inspire and motivate the next generation of Yorkshire tennis stars.”
