Chartered Accountancy firm, Townends Accountants LLP has employed Jack Whale and George Biggin as trainee accountants in its Goole office.
The pair spent a year working as interns with the firm as part of their degrees and now rejoin Townends on a full-time basis.
Becky de Cobain, partner at Townends, said: “We are really excited to welcome Jack and George back to join the team on a permanent basis. They demonstrated exceptional skills whilst with us as interns and it will be great to see how their careers develop.”
Whilst studying for a degree in Accounting and Business Management at York St. John University, George chose to take a year out to gain experience working in accountancy.
George said: “I’m pleased to be back at Townends and working towards the joint ACA and CTA qualifications with a great support network behind me. Three weeks in and it feels like I never left – in a good way! I really can’t wait to see what the next three years hold.”
Becky added: “The internship is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain experience working in an accountancy firm and to find out if it suits their career aspirations. It gives the students the chance to put into practice the theory that they have learnt and is a very useful recruitment tool for us – a year long job interview!”
Jack’s accounting degree at the University of Northumbria included a year working in industry to further develop his skills and understanding.
Jack added: “No two days are the same at Townends, which is what makes it so exciting. One day you’re completing a tax return for a client and the next you’re playing cricket for the Townends cricket team. I’m really enjoying working in a friendly and supportive environment with colleagues who are always happy to share their knowledge and experience.”
