Nexus Vehicle Rental recognised as top ten growth business in UK

David Brennan

Nexus Vehicle Rental, the UK’s leading tech driven business mobility provider, has been named as one of only ten companies in The Sunday Times’ Grant Thornton Top Track 250 “One to Watch” list for 2019.

The programme acknowledges companies that have shown significant growth in the last year and deserve appreciation for their innovative approach.

Alongside this, Nexus has also been shortlisted for two UK Business Tech Awards in the Transport Tech Company of the Year and SAAS Company of the Year categories. The awards celebrate the UK’s finest tech businesses and reward the innovative and exceptional application of technology to transform and grow businesses.

This recognition caps another successful financial year for Nexus, with a string of award successes including the Judges’ Leadership Award at the Northern Tech Awards and The Medium Business Award at the Yorkshire Business Masters. CEO David Brennan was also recently named EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) in the Disruptor category in the North.

Ahead of its seventh year of record results, Nexus also secured a private equity investment totalling £142million from Phoenix Equity Partners in July last year. This almost trebled the buy-out figure from Bowmark Capital who funded the previous £51million MBO in 2015. The investment enables Nexus to continue the development of its proprietary rental booking and management technology to offer customers more ways to manage their rental vehicles effectively.

Nexus provides access to the UK’s largest supply chain of more than 550,000 vehicles, including 100,000 specialist and commercial vehicles, across over 2,000 UK locations. Vehicles can be booked in just ten seconds via its award-winning online rental booking platform, IRIS, and can usually be delivered within two hours of a booking being made.

David Brennan, CEO at Nexus Vehicle Rental, said: “We have achieved a great deal over the last 12 months, including announcing record turnover and profit figures, and we are continuing to further develop our IRIS platform to benefit our customers. It’s great therefore to be recognised as One to Watch in such a prestigious ranking as well as receiving two nominations through the leading B2B technology awards programme.

“Our business growth is driven by our innovative use of technology, which enables customers to access any vehicle, anytime, anywhere. To be recognised as part of an elite group of high-growth companies within the Top Track ranking is an honour and a fitting credit to Nexus’ talented staff that work so hard to ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry.”

Will Paige, research manager at Top Track, said: “Nexus was included specifically because of the high growth potential the business has and the success it’s achieved in recent years. We always try to include businesses for the Ones to Watch table that are likely to be on the main table in the future, which we certainly consider Nexus Vehicle Rental to be.”

The Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 league table ranks Britain’s private mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales. It is compiled by Fast Track and published in The Sunday Times each October, with an awards event in November, and alumni dinners during the year. The UK Business Tech Awards ceremony takes place on 13 November at the Montcalm Marble Arch hotel in London.
