Bottomley Opticians announced National Opticians Practice of the Year

Bottomleys Eyeware Boutique, based in The Piece Hall, Halifax, will officially receive the coveted National Opticians Practice of the Year award on Monday, when Conor Heaney,  director of the trade association, Optical Success Academy, will visit the boutique.

The award comes following the Boutique’s first anniversary in The Piece Hall, Jim Bottomley, the third generation owner of the family business, attended the Optical Success Academy conference in Liverpool in September, with more than 100 of the top independent opticians in the UK.

Rewarded for their recent growth, innovative business practices and recognised for offering their customers something truly different in terms of eyewear style and a very personal customer experience, Bottomleys was crowned the winner of the Independent Optician Practice of the Year.

Bottomley Opticians was started in 1948 by Jim’s grandfather, Randolph Bottomley, then run by Jim’s father John Bottomley and since his father’s retirement ten years ago, Jim Bottomley has continued the family legacy. Not one to rest on his laurels, Jim has continued to evolve the practice and boldly opened the new additional eyewear boutique in The Piece Hall in April 2018.

Jim said the lessons he learned about the importance of providing a personal service have been instilled from his father and grandfather and have always stayed with him.

He added: “My grandfather used to say, ‘Always give people a reason to walk through the door’, and that is even more important today when people have more choices than ever. As an independent business I believe we still have a place in the world today because people still value personal service and being treated like an individual rather than just a number.”

The business recently celebrated 70 years of Bottomley Opticians in The Old Town Hall, 22 Union Street Halifax. Following extensive research and buying trips to global eyewear trade fairs in Paris, Milan and Munich, Bottomley’s decided to make the new boutique in The Piece Hall all about unique design from independent niche eyewear designers.

“It is these small independent manufacturers who set the trends and are at the cutting edge of eyewear design.” added Jim “We wanted to make The Piece Hall boutique for our clients who wear glasses proudly and want to make a statement with their eyewear.”
