Law firm Bevan Brittan is donating £5,000 to local adult mental health charity Claro, which the firm’s staff support throughout the year with fundraising activities.
The donation is part of a total of £20,000 that Bevan Brittan is giving nationally to charities this Christmas in its four office in Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol and London.
The £5,000 donation represents the equivalent cost of postage saved by sending eCards instead of physical Christmas cards.
As the chosen charity for Bevan Brittan’s Leeds office in Toronto Square, staff have already raised almost £1,000 of contributions for Claro through running a 10K, office dress-down days, raffles and a charity golf day.
Claro Enterprises is an adult mental health charity based in the community of Harrogate. It operates as a commercial workshop making goods for businesses, which enables those with long term mental health conditions to function in a voluntary real work environment.
Through training and personal development, clients can improve their quality of life, confidence, independence, self-esteem and gain skills, which will enable them to look for and hopefully achieve meaningful employment.
Owen Jones, general manager at Claro, said: “We were very pleasantly surprised – £5,000 is a really significant sum for us, and it will help us provide an extra support session every week for a year.
“Christmas can be a very difficult time for people with mental health issues, so the donation is very timely. For clients who may be quite isolated, we can continue to support them throughout the period.
“These donations allow us to support people who fall through the net of services; those who don’t qualify for support through the NHS or other means. This means that, as a charity, where we see people in need, we can assist them.”
Michael Boyd, head of the Leeds Office at Bevan Brittan, said: “As a firm, we want to make a difference to the communities we work in. We are delighted to support Claro, an organisation that plays a key role in helping those with mental health conditions rebuild their confidence and gain practical work skills.
“There is a strong culture of fundraising and giving among our team in Leeds that not only supports Claro but several other causes too. It is a great pleasure to be able to make this donation at Christmas – and to thank everyone involved for their considerable efforts. I hope this will go some way towards helping those that require care, advice or support.”
