Historic Northallerton prison stones saved

Historic stones mounted on the gatehouse of the former Northallerton prison have been saved.

The gatehouse was demolished last month as part of the £17m Treadmills retail business and leisure development but the three stones – two white roses and the “VR” from the original jail structure have been salvaged.

They will be given a new home in phase two of the development when the listed buildings will be brought back into use.
