Yorkshire software developers celebrate record turnover

A South Yorkshire software development firm is celebrating after winning two awards and smashing its turnover target in 2019.

Merlinsoft, based in Barnsley, achieved a 75 per cent increase in turnover last year compared with 2018. The company has seen rapid growth in the past five years – turnover in the month of October 2019 alone was higher than in the whole of 2015.

Merlinsoft employs ten staff and provides business management platforms and venue management software to a range of clients in the UK and overseas.

Owen Gleadall, managing director of Merlinsoft, said: “We’re delighted with the turnover figures, which blew all our forecasts away. To grow at the rate we have done in such a short space of time has exceeded all our expectations.

“On the back of those figures we’ve set ourselves some ambitious targets for 2020, but we’ve already secured some new client wins, so it’s looking likely that we will surpass our forecasts again. Sales for the first few weeks of 2020 already show an increase of 70 per cent over last year at the same time.”

Last year Merlinsoft won two major awards. The firm was recognised as the UK’s top admissions and ticketing solution for visitor attractions by LUXLife Magazine and won an award from Tesco for the best integration of their voucher scheme into a venue management system.

“We didn’t even know we’d been nominated for either award, so it was a great surprise to all of us when we were told we had won. For a company to be put forward for awards by clients is a real honour and shows how much our service is valued,” Owen said.

Rebranded in 2015, Merlinsoft is based at the The Business Village @BBIC in Redbrook, and offers a range of services including venue management systems, admissions and ticketing systems and electronic point of sale software.

The company has developed partnerships with Tesco Clubcard and WorldPay, and clients include Portsmouth City Council, Antler Luggage and Pensthorpe Park in Norfolk.

As one of the pioneers of offering Gift Aid on admission charges and in charity shops, Merlinsoft became the first Electronic Point of Sale supplier for Gift Aid in the UK to be audited and accepted by HMRC.
