A Yorkshire lawyer who moved to the UK from Poland aged just 14 has passed a major milestone on her journey in pursuit of a dream career.
Aleksandra Cebula, who works for Truth Legal in Harrogate, is now fully-qualified as a solicitor after seven years’ studying and training – all in her second language.
While her skills extend to supporting clients from all backgrounds, she is part of a growing team who guides and represents the Polish community on employment law rights. She also helps them to pursue personal injury claims.
“After lots of hard work and challenges on my legal journey, being admitted to the roll of solicitors was one of the most exciting and proud days of my life,” she said. “I’m now relishing the opportunity to take the next step on my career path.
“I was attracted to Truth Legal by its ethics and values, so it’s fulfilling that I can use my linguistic skills and first-hand experience of what is like to live as an immigrant in the UK to help others.
“Supporting Polish people and other EU nationals in fighting their corner, and guiding them through UK laws so they can have access to justice, is one of the most satisfying strands to my role.”
Truth Legal has provided a dedicated Polish-speaking team to the community for more than six years. Aleksandra works alongside Mirek Ksiezarek and Magdalena Ions.
Its founder, solicitor Andrew Gray, said: “We understand how important it is that we are able to serve the Polish community living and working in the UK with honest, ethical legal advice at all times.
“Aleksandra is a key member not just of that team but also the wider services we provide. Everyone here is delighted to see her become fully-qualified as a solicitor and is looking forward to watching her legal career continue to flourish.”
Aleksandra joined Truth Legal two years ago after starting her law studies in the Midlands, where she took up a number of work experience and placement roles to advance her knowledge, before becoming a paralegal at a Nottingham solicitors.
Since opening its doors seven years ago, Truth Legal has grown into a practice that now employs a team of 20, having recently launched specialisms in immigration law, consumer law and property litigation.
