The team at Yorkshire’s first single malt whisky distillery is celebrating Yorkshire Day on August 1, with the launch of their first special release single malt whisky.
Filey Bay Yorkshire Day is the first of a limited run of releases that will be launched annually at the Hunmanby distillery’s Open Day on or around Yorkshire Day. It is a combination of bourbon and PX sherry casks that were laid down in 2016 and bottled at a higher strength than other releases at 55 per cent ABV.
Of the launch, Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery Co-Founder David Thompson said: “Although we had to cancel this year’s Open Day, we have been working hard behind the scenes to bring this long awaited release to market and are delighted that we will have it for sale in the distillery shop on August 1.”
Spirit of Yorkshire’s Whisky director Joe Clark said: “Filey Bay Yorkshire Day is rich and spicy with flavours of dried fruits, cocoa, honey, hazelnut, caramel and black pepper.
“With only 1500 bottles available, Filey Bay Yorkshire Day is our rarest whisky release to date. It’s also our oldest whisky to be bottled so far and is very unlikely to be around for long.”
Filey Bay Yorkshire Day costs £85 and is available exclusively from the distillery shop and online at spiritofyorkshire.com. The distillery shop is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sundays. Distillery tours are also available at 11am and 1pm daily and must be pre-booked.
Spirit of Yorkshire is a field to bottle distillery that was launched in 2016, with its first single malt whisky bottled in 2019. It is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor from Wold Top Brewery and business partner, David Thompson.
