New Fresh & Local store supplied by Costcutter opens in East Leeds

A new Fresh & Local petrol station and convenience store, supplied by Costcutter Supermarkets Group, is set to officially mark its recent opening in Swarcliffe, Leeds, on Monday, to further support the local community with a great new option for shopping locally, creating 15 new jobs in the process.

Keen to offer local shoppers a greater range of fresh food and the option of doing a ‘full shop closer to home, store owner, Subu Nanthakumar, who has been in retail for the past 20 years, will welcome the Lord Major of Leeds, Coun Eileen Taylor, to officially open the new look store with a ribbon cutting at 2pm.

Staff will be on hand to welcome shoppers with giveaways throughout the day. A magician will be performing card tricks and other close-up (socially distanced) magic between 10am-2pm and between 2pm–6pm shoppers will be invited to enter a balloon popping competition to win a range of prizes from coffee and cake to free petrol for a year.

The new look store, which will be supplied by Costcutter, will offer a wide range of fresh fruit & vegetables, fresh meats and a greater range of chilled foods and meal solutions as well as a hot food and drink offering through its Wild Bean Cafe.

Shoppers will also be able to choose from a wide selection of store cupboard essentials and frozen goods, alongside a greater choice of beers, wines and spirits.

Through Costcutter’s wholesale supply deal with Co-op, Subu is also able to offer local shoppers access to a wide range of Co-op Own Brand products within the store. The store will also feature Wild Bean Café-coffee and hot food, a fresh orange juice machine and a slush machine.

To help keep shoppers and her staff safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, Subu has ensured a range of safety measures are in place, including facilities so customers can sanitize their hands before and after shopping, a one-way system and clear signage and floor stickers to help shoppers keep a safe distance apart.

Store owner Subu Nanthakumar said: “Now more than ever, I want to support our local community to ensure they have everything they need at this challenging time. I’m confident our new range and offering will really appeal to the local community. We can’t wait to hear what our shoppers have to say!”
