Harrogate BID “flower-powers ahead” with boosting town’s floral displays

Harrogate Business Improvement District (BID) is “flower-powering” ahead with giving the town’s floral displays a year-round boost.

From this week, large planters – similar to those that grace the entrances to major hotels – will be placed outside 20 shops and businesses within the BID district.

Those receiving the new planters include Primark, Boots, Barclays, Hoopers, Marks & Spencer, Next, Waterstones and LK Bennet.

From the beginning of November, and working with Harrogate Borough Council’s parks and gardens team, The Bid team will be installing more than 120 barrier baskets around the town centre, with special displays appearing in Beulah Street.

The BID team is also hoping to partner with a local charity to create and maintain a small garden within the town centre.

Harrogate BID Acting Chair Sara Ferguson said: “Harrogate’s reputation for being a floral town is known far and wide. Over the decades it has won many national and international accolades for its stunning gardens and flower beds, and we are now going to be adding a few more jewels to the town’s ‘floral crown’.

“HBC’s gardeners do a fantastic job, and we are looking forward to working alongside them. You only need to look at the displays in Montpellier Gardens to appreciate their skills.

“Harrogate BID has already seen to the deep cleaning the town centre, and together with these new floral displays, we believe it will set Harrogate well and truly apart from other Yorkshire towns, and be another reason for people to visit.”
