Transformation of former Haworth fire station into convenience store underway

The transformation of a former fire station site in the Bronte village of Haworth into a new supermarket has started.

Dalehead Properties has appointed Whitaker & Leach to bring to life the new Co-Op Convenience Store on Bridgehouse Lane, which will bring with it benefits for both locals and visitors alike, and will create up to 20 permanent jobs.

The Bradford-based company, whose clients include Home Bargains, Next and the NHS, will take up to six months to complete the construction phase of the project.

Dalehead were granted planning permission for the store last December for the site, which was vacated by West Yorkshire Service in 2014 as part of a cost cutting exercise.

David Brackenridge of Dalehead Properties said: “We have chosen Whitaker & Leach because they are a well-established local building contractor with experience in building similar projects.

“We are confident they will deliver an excellent property in line with the agreed plans, and we look forward to working with them on this exciting project that will deliver real benefits for the people of Haworth.

Based in the West Bowling area of the city, Whitaker & Leach specialises in construction, refurbishment, demolition and bespoke joinery.

Robert Leach, Whitaker & Leach Managing Director, said: “We are very much looking forward to partnering with Dalehead Properties to construct this new Co-Op store.

“Being a proud Bradford company with more than 60 years’ experience, it’s great to be undertaking a commercial property development on our doorstep.”
