For the first time ever, The Great British Food Awards has introduced categories for the most impressive regional brands, and Divine Gin has won best food and drink product for the North of England region.
All three of Divine’s unique and award-winning gins were short-listed, little did we know our company as a whole, R2 Distillers Ltd, would win the award.
The nominations were judged by a celebrity panel of chefs, experts and critics including The Hairy Bikers, Michel Roux Jr and Monica Galetti. With the hospitality industry being under so much strain recently, these prestigious awards are fantastic for boosting small businesses exposure and popularity.
Ray Woolhead, managing director, said@ “We are overwhelmed to be crowned north of England winners, 2020 has been a challenging year where we have learned to adapt the business to maintain operations. This award makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
Rachel Woolhead, head of marketing (and Chief Taste Tester!), said: “Winning this award alongside such fierce competition is phenomenal! We hope through this competition people will explore small food and drink companies and discover new and exciting products – and naturally drink more Divine!”
The Great British Food Awards were launched in 2014 to “celebrate the country’s finest artisanal produce, as well as the hard-working people behind the scenes.” Our gins had to go through three rounds to reach the top position in the North including vigorous taste testing from both enthusiasts and celebrities, then judgement of the brand as a whole by Booth’s Supermarket professional buying team.
